It was 146 years ago that the would-be provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick decided that being British colonies wasn't the ideal situation to find themselves in. So, they band together, putting differences aside and joined, in an act of Union, as the Dominion of Canada. This was the first time in history that the term dominion was used in reference to a country.
The original idea sprouted years earlier, and Canada was pretty much a self-governing colony since the 1840s. But at first the United Kingdom wouldn't let us become our our Nation, so, after having conference after conference, in both future Canadian cities and in the UK itself. and finally on July 1st 1867, Britain finalized the British North America Act. Telling the world that Canada had finally become a country all its own.
Now Canada didn't start out as being the same size as it is today, no, absolutely not. in fact, the entire country at the time was roughly the size of today's Ontario I'd say. If you'd like to see the expansion and history of Canadian geography, click this link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Can…

Yep, there's alot for Canadian to be proud of, my personal moment being when Alexandre Bilodeau won the very first Olympic gold medal on Canadian soil. But everyone has their own moment of Canadian history that they're proud of the most.
Have a good day my friends.
